How much does guidance cost?
A gift is appreciated when you know the price. An average Yoruba breed will greet you for a favour done every time he sees you within the following 3 days; they have their ways of saying it. All gifts have price tags and they are worthy, they only vary in worth. That is why appreciation should differ.
I marvel at the state of ingrates. How should you get lots of benefit and gift from someone and what you could do best is to backstab or show ingratitude. It is worrying to see such people around you.
However, until a gift is retrieved from you, the value might not be apparent.
Like the beacon that shows us the way in the darkness, the solace for the agonized hearts, the rope of salvation for a drowning person, the Google Map that directs us when we are lost; guidance plays a vital role in our lives.
Guidance is a criterion. It separates those who live a purposeful life and those who only exist because they are meant to exist. This guidance is now a gift that is undervalued. It is a divine gift that goes to whomever The Almighty wishes to bless.
Before every Islamic lectures or sermon, we hear the speaker saying:
“Whomsoever Allah guides, none can misguide; whomsoever He misguides, no one can guide”
We really don't pay attention to the fact that guidance is a gift and misguidance is the opposite.
Anyway, maybe if we knew the cost of guidance, we might appreciate it more than we presently do.
The mystery of guidance cannot be unraveled because it is a divine gift and the benefactor gives it to whomever he wishes, a way of showing sovereignty. He warned His Noble Prophet not to disturb himself over the misguidance of some people because only He guides whomsoever He wishes.
Interestingly, guidance is in different stages and forms. Guidance in our endeavours too is a type of guidance but the forms of guidance is not the purview of this article.
Additionally, guidance is not a total gift to the owner, Allah retrieve it anytime He wishes and He can do that in twinkle of an eye. The prophet would not cease to pray for firmness in his guidance and we also repeat the verse in “Suratul Faatiha” to pray for continuous guidance.
Sadly, the guidance of Islam is in possession of some today and they prefer to forsake it by injecting contrary ideologies, beliefs, principles and ideas into the already perfected religion. It is like giving your night food to the cat, ultimately, it would end in premium tears.
In conclusion, we should take guidance to be a very expensive gift with no price tag from the Possessor of All Goods and continue praying for firmness of feet on the right path.
